POEM: If I could change the WORLD! – Craig Ngwenya

If I could change the world,
I could change everyone’s perspective,

Instead of life treating people,
People would be treating life,
Instead of people making love,
Love would be making people,
Instead of people feeling joy,
Joy would be filling people,

If I could change the world,
I could create an environment where people would always be celebrating,
Living their lives ululating,
Without contemplating,
But with dreams and goals, articulating.

But it’s very unfortunate because our minds are now filled with thoughts of regretting,

If I could change the world,
I could change the world,
But instead of changing the world,
We are being changed by the world.

Instead of making time count,
Time is making us count,
We’re neglecting the idea that the wasted time won’t do a rebound,
In the end, you will beg God, for your days, to do a recount.

Living life with love and compassion has become a nightmare,
Living life with hatred and sorrow has become normal life,
Taking drugs has become the most preliminary step into adulthood,
Prostitution and violence have become an incurable disease,
That even the greatest scientists are failing to create a cure for.

Choosing between good and bad,
has become a real dilemma,
Hope has become too detrimental for human life,
Setting goals is now as hard as trying to make a U-turn in one way drive,

In a vivid form, televisions and movies,
Have given youngsters, a heavy diet of sex, sin and crime.
Extensive use of social media to glamorize nudity,
Have seen a lady, walking in the street almost naked,

The pressure of materialism has made parents,
Sacrifice their own children so as to get rich,
The same pressure has actuated a woman to hate her image,
Choosing to use beautifying products,
Without the knowledge that she’s blaming the creator.

We no longer have do’s and don’ts,
No one now knows the differences between immoral and moral,
Early marriage has become our creed,
A creed that has introduced a disturbing phrase, “Late marriage”

“This phrase has caused many 24-25year old women to shun themselves, thinking that they’ve grown so older that they can’t get married due to their age”

The world is now filled with,
Various kinds of psychopathic criminality,
Resulting in,
And lying

Maybe for us to fulfil this desire,
We need someone like Isaiah,
To give a profess that tells us not to retire,
Because pain is what we require,
So that knowledge and wisdom, we can acquire.

Well, life is an adventure,
Days are gone, that we can’t recapture,
But I think we all have to wait for the rapture,
When we will all get to meet our greatest teacher!
“If I could change the world”.
