Plan Uganda launched a girls get equal campaign on Friday at Hotel African and over hundreds of people attended. The new launched campaign seeks to foster rights and equal treatment of girl child in Uganda.

With this new campaign, Its time to challenge the stereotypes that hold girls back. The campaign also looks at the world’s storytellers, advertisers and marketers to stop reinforcing damaging stereotypes through their communications and start working with girls and young women to share diverse stories of girls’ power.

It emphasizes on Influencers and decision takers to create space and opportunities for girls and young women because they have the power to make crucial decisions when it comes to issues affecting their lives

The voices of girls are often missing at decision making levels and resources have been mediated through men up to now which has seriously hindered girl’s access to those resources like girls’ access to education, power, representation has been difficult in Uganda

Rt.Hon Rebecca Kadaga graced the event and speaking at the event; As government, we guarantee our support to the Girls Get Equal campaign and commit to listen to the voices of girls. Girls’ voices need to be heard not only in the households but in both private and public decision making places. she says

The girls get equal campaign is an important step towards advancing equality for girls and young women in Uganda, and for equality to be realized there is a need to increase the power of women to take control of things happening in their lives, Rt.Hon. Rebecca added

Some of the participants were all calling an end to sexual harassment at schools, workplaces. Raising voices to build a more equal world. If a young girl gets pregnant in the community, if an older man is sleeping with a child it’s an sexual abuse, Police should be called and intervene in to the matters

In Uganda, Everyone has a role to play in girls getting equal. Girls need allies to speed up change and progress towards equality

By the end of the Girls Get Equal campaign in 2022 ,we believe that Uganda shall celebrate a new era, Girls will become unstoppable and very empowered. We won’t stop until girls are equally seen, heard and valued. The guest of honor, Rt.Hon Rebecca said during the launch of the campaign
